The Name Game

I've got a story due in Creative Writing on Tuesday. So, whilst looking for a name for my MC, a middle-aged astronomer who's looking to quit his job to be a storyteller, I stumbled across this name generator. So I've wasted plenty of time putting in the names of famous literary figures and friends and family and famous historical figures and so forth. The results? Well...

Me: Lucille Armstrong (Well... okay... I never could imagine myself as a "Lucille" but I suppose I could go with Armstrong.)
Elizabeth Bennet: Anna Osborne (I was with you til we got to the Osborne part.)
Fitzwilliam Darcy: Billy Sanders (Oh, the indignity! Fancy calling Mr. Darcy "Billy"!)
George Wickham: Jefferey Cain (It's bad that I like this one better than Mr. Darcy's...)
Jane Bennet: Ida Houston (Ida? WTF?)
Charles Bingley: Mike Potter (Hmm. That's not so bad, actually.)
Elyse Dowdy: Carrie Allen (It has potential, but not for her. Still, as a character name, I can see that.)
Travis Dowdy: Barry Thomas (Barry? *dies laughing* I can't imagine calling my brother "Barry"!)
Kristen Dowdy: Michelle Baldwin (Again, it has potential, but not for my mom.)
Evan Dowdy: Maurice Weaver (Maurice? MAURICE?! Okay, two images... Beauty and the Beast or Ethan Townsend... *shudders*)
Sherlock Holmes: Floyd Mann (Um.)
Vlad Dracul (aka Count Dracula): Frank Lambert (Sounds... deadly... ominous, even *shifty eyes*)
David Copperfield: Aaron McCormick (... that kind of works for me, strangely enough.)
Catherine Heathcliff: Josephine Silva (she doesn't deserve such a pretty name!)
Charlotte Bronte: Judith Spencer (...)
Napoleon Bonaparte: Warren Peterson (I kind of like it! Not for Napoleon, but still. It's got a kind of ring to it.)
Ludwig von Beethoven: Curtis Holland (.......)
Winston Churchill: Stanley Little (I LOVE it! That's awesome!)
Anne Boelyn: Theresa Romero (Howsabout NO.)
Henry Tudor: Scott Dawson (Not for him, but that name rocks.)
Jane Austen: Melanie Reynolds (Well... okay, then! Actually, if I ever publish under a pseudonym, I might use that one. I kind of like it.)

Anyway. I also found out that my name was the 187th most popular name in the entire nation according to the 1990 US census. That's bordering on bloody insane, since the list went to 1000. Though, there are other people whose names are much higher on the list than mine. Some of them are really bizarre (Gertrude at 237? Who names their kid Gertrude?! And who the heck is named Luz?). If you want to see the list, here it is: List 'o' Names. And there's a link to the boy's names too, if you're interested.

And... because I can (and I'm bored and procrastinating)... more quizzes! Wheeeeeeeeee! =D

You Are 36% Cynical

Generally you give people the benefit of the doubt. But there are exceptions.
You buy into many of the things that mainstream society believes, but you're not anybody's fool.

Well, okay, I can see that. Generally.

The Movie Of Your Life Is A Cult Classic

Quirky, offbeat, and even a little campy - your life appeals to a select few.
But if someone's obsessed with you, look out! Your fans are downright freaky.

Your best movie matches: Office Space, Showgirls, The Big Lebowski

I was with you until you got to specific examples. But why, oh why, of all the cult classics out there, did you pick two of my LEAST favorite guy movies? I was really, really not impressed with Office Space, and even less so with The Big Lebowski. Despite the fact that both came highly recommended. They had their moments, but if all I can aspre to is that, well, I'd rather not. *dies*

You Are 28% Slacker

You have a few slacker tendencies, but overall you tend not to slack.
You know how to relax when the time is right, but you aren't lazy!

I... *blinks* well. That was unexpected. I thought I was at least 50% what with all the procrastinating I do. Like what I'm doing right now.

You Are 8% Democrat

If you have anything in common with the Democrat party, it's by sheer chance.
You're a staunch conservative, and nothing is going to change that!

Bwahahahaha. Yep.

You Are 72% Republican

You have a good deal of elephant running through your blood, and you're proud to be conservative.
You don't fit every Republican stereotype, but you definitely belong in the Republican party.

So what's my other 6% that's not Republican or Liberal? Normal? ;-D

You Are 56% Lady

You're part lady, part modern woman.
Etiquette is important to you, but you brush aside rules that are outdated or silly.

Actually I'd prefer to get a higher score, but I'm just too lazy to be a real lady. That's sad....

Snickers

Nutty and gooey - you always satisfy.

That's awesome! Snickers is totally the best candy bar in the history of candy bars. Seriously. I'm freaking addicted to Snickers. Mmmmmm. ...Wait, does that make me a cannibal? o.O

Um... yeah, I should really quit and go take a shower. And, go the store and stuff.

Laters!
