Just thinking....
You would think, since I have written 30,000 words in the past 6 days (I've not written more than "Chapter Seven" today), I would be rather burned out on this whole writing thing. Yesterday was crazy; I wrote 10,000 words (and change, I think I went a couple hundred over) and made it further through my plot than I had ever expected.
Now, my problem is that I haven't got 70,000 words of plot left in this story. I mean, I might, but it's going to be a stretch. They're already heading back to Pebeworde with the prince, which is the halfway point of my story and should be happening at 50k, not 30k. (For those of you who don't know, I'm aiming for 100,000 words this year instead of the usual 50k.) I did find out that there is a subplot involving a bluestone pendant (an incredibly rare and valueable stone, which was once said to hold magical/mystical powers), so I might be able to get a few thousand words out of that. I haven't decided whether or not the pendant actually has any powers yet. If it does, I don't have a clue what they are, or why they matter. Maybe it's actually a curse, but the only one that's dangerous that I can think of is making her always tell the truth, and I'm not doing a hash of Ella Enchanted or Liar Liar (heh... I've had better...). And I haven't decided if Laura is dead when Sarah gets back to Pebeworde or if she's just dying - I can see it going both ways and working heartbreakingly well either way. But poor Laura has to go.
So, apart from NaNo, I think I have a slightly improved idea of what I want to do for my thesis! It was right before I fell asleep last night (the time when the best ideas always come to me - thankfully I always have a notebook and pencil by my bed for these moments), and I thought, Oh! Creative Non-fiction! It fits with my major, I can find the instructor for E311C (the creative non-fiction class) and ask them to be my committee member, maybe take the class so I can apply what I am learning right off, etc. I can edit it up and self-publish if I choose, or at least send it to Sylvia and see if she thinks it's worth distributing, or hell, maybe I can try to get it published by Zondervan or Group or someone. So, I'm going to run that idea by Guardiola once I've written up a more formal proposal, and see what she says. Maybe I'll couch it in terms of that one book we read in her Medieval England class (Hanawalt, I want to say), where she offers the information and then gives a little fictional anecdote to illustrate her point. Ohh, yes, that would be fantastic. Okay, this stands a chance of working out after all. *happy dance*
I'm off to not pay attention in class more!
